The International Cat Association believes curiosity SAVED the cat – and is partnering with global pet care company Royal Canin to prove it. Inspired by the innate curiosity of cats, Royal Canin is supporting National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day on August 22 with a challenge for us to become more curious about our cats’ health.

The “Curiosity Saved the Cat” campaign asks cat owners to pledge to see the vet this year by visiting www.royalcanin.com/Cat2VetDay and ‘scratching’ their name on the pledge list.

For every pledge taken through August 26, Royal Canin will donate a bowl of food to animal shelters across the country.

TICA, along with the American Association of Feline Practitioners, the CATalyst Council, the Cat Fanciers’ Association are joining Royal Canin to encourage more attention to preventive veterinary care for cats. Take the pledge to take your cat to the vet, today!

New Yorker Festival’s You: The Jury, Cats. http://tica.org/blog/new-yorker-festivals-you-the-jury-cats/ Thu, 09 Oct 2014 13:55:04 +0000 http://www.tica.org/blog/?p=638 Continue reading ]]> The great work of educating, engaging and advocating on behalf of cats and cat enthusiasts that TICA continues to play such an important role has had some super high points in recent years. AKC Meet The Breeds was one of them. I recently found out that Anthony Lane, Film Critic of the New Yorker, had a conversation with at the entrance to AKC Meet The Breeds with either Vickie Fisher or Bobbie Tullo about cats. He can’t remember which, but he bought a cat toy from one of them. Anthony Lane is the leading the defense of Cats in the New Yorker Festival’s You: The Jury, Cats.
Vs. Dogs event! This tongue and cheek approach to the age old debate will take place on Saturday, October 11 at the SIR Stage 37 just after Larry David’s (Seinfeld & Curb Your Enthusiasm) conversation and just before Mindy Kaling’s (The Office &The Mindy Project Q & A) on the very same stage.

Also on the panel for CATS are:
Jerry Coyne, Professor of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Chicago, publisher of more than 100 academic papers.
Joyce Carol Oates, Professor of Humanities and Creative Writing at Princeton, National Humanities Medal recipient, Nation Book Award Winner, Pulitzer Prize Finalist and author of numerous books and story collections.
Ariel Levy, New Yorker staff writer, cat owner and author of “Female Chauvinist Pig”.
Jesse Eisenberg, Academy Award nominated actor from “The Social Network”, “The Double” and portrays Lex Luthor in the new “Batman Vs.
Superman”. Jesse also fosters homeless kittens.
Anthony Hutcherson, TICA Bengal Cat Breed Chairperson, with TICA’s own Bengal Cat as the only live feline representing the fairer species!
Representing Dogs are: Malcolm Glawell, Author of “Outliers”;, “Blink” and “Tipping Point” and is a New Yorker staff writer.
Jill Abramson, First Female Editor of the New York Times and author of “The Puppy Diaries”.
Alexandra Horowitz, Professor at Barnard College and author of Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell and Know”
Bill Berloni, reknowned dog trainer of “Sandy” for every Annie Broadway show and movie.

Tickets for the event are already SOLD OUT! I better think of something great to say.
This does provide an opportunity to thank Vickie Fisher, Bobbie Tullo, Cheryl Hogan and especially all of the TICA members and friends who support efforts like Meet The Breeds so many others to reach people, who even years later, help us spread our message of felines, friends and fun.
Wish me luck!

The Real Scoop for Cleaning Your Cat’s Litter Box. http://tica.org/blog/the-real-scoop-for-cleaning-your-cats-litter-box/ Tue, 05 Aug 2014 21:03:47 +0000 http://www.tica.org/blog/?p=634 Continue reading ]]> Smart Scoop’r Features Pat. Pending Zero-Dust Technology™. Scooper Empties while it’s Inside the Litter. No Dropping Litter! No Dust!

The New Aluminum Handle with Foam Grip is about 18″ long. Jan tried it and it works unbelievable! The Handle rotates 360 degrees plus sliding back & forth on the Scooper Handle. We both liked sitting in a chair and pulling the Scooper toward us. It was easy to reach the Litter Box. The Scooper slices thru the litter with ease! It would be good Scooping from a Wheelchair also…Bending over the box also worked good. I really expected the Scooper to pull ‘harder’ thru the litter, but it was more like a hot knife cutting thru a cube of butter.
