New treatment shows promise in stopping feline peritonitis

TICA

NEWStat

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a viral infection of cats, is nearly 100 percent fatal. Now, thanks to early results on a new clinical trial, there is hope. The Morris Animal Foundation recently reported that researchers at Kansas State University, Wichita State University, and the University of California, Davis, successfully blocked progression of FIP. The study was funded in part with a grant from Morris Animal Foundation, and the early results were reported on Aug. 31.

Meet TICA's Newest Partner...ViaGen!!!

We are happy to introduce ViaGen as a new international corporate TICA partner.

TICADennis Milutinovich
Pets Cloning Lab Manager

Dennis Milutinovich is a rare commodity in the world of animal technology...he is one of only a few scientists in the world to successfully clone a cat, and also a dog. In fact, as a skilled ViaGen scientist, Dennis has successfully cloned multiple species of animals including cattle, horses, pigs, goats, sheep and deer...in addition to pets. As the Cloning Lab Manager for Pets, he not only performs the cloning process, but he also is actively engaged in the gestation, birth and socialization processes for every kitten and puppy produced in the ViaGen Pets program. "I love working with animals, and I view each puppy and kitten as my "babies", he said. "It's my mission to make sure each healthy, happy puppy or kitten is ready to go out into the world and meet their new families, where they will extend the loving bonds that a beloved pet has with his/her family."

TICADennis started his life in Kanosha, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a Bachelor's degree in Medical Microbiology and Immunology. He joined the ViaGen cloning team that Dr's. Shawn and Kelcey Walker have built in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada and began cloning horses. After 5 years in Canada, Dennis moved to Iowa where he joined the cloning team that was working on cattle, pigs, sheep and goats. In addition he travelled to Texas to work on deer cloning. In May of 2015, Dennis moved east to head up the ViaGen Pets lab on the east coast and in a short period of time, he and Dr. Shawn Walker were successful in their efforts to clone cats and dogs...a feat that is truly remarkable. "Dennis is a great employee and huge pet lover that truly cares about each and every puppy and kitten that we have born", said Dr. Walker. "I really value his commitment and efforts as we have undertaken the mission of ViaGen Pets, which is to deliver "Love.Reimagined". Multiple litters of kittens have been delivered to ecstatic pet owners, who are thrilled to have a genetic twin to their beloved pet. And this month ViaGen Pets is extremely proud to announce the birth of their first cloned puppy...a little female Jack Russel terrier named Nubia. ViaGen Pets is the only provider of feline cloning services in the world, and the only provider of dog cloning in the U.S. ViaGen Pets joins ViaGen Equine and ViaGen Livestock to complete the triad of Genetic Preservation and Cloning services provided to the pet, horse and livestock owners of North America.

When Dennis is not busy making pet owners dreams come true, he enjoys hiking and camping along with his girlfriend, Laura, who is an accountant. We are proud to have team members, like Dennis, on the world class team of ViaGen who make dreams come true.

Dispatches from the Feline Groovy Cat Show

TICA

Milwaukee was abuzz with activity last weekend. After years away, Rock The Green made its triumphant return to, uh, rocking the green. Bay View Bash emphatically ended the city's summer festival season. Both Foreign Goods and Rusty Pelicans played release shows in Riverwest, on top of the numerous worthwhile non-release shows also going on around town. Though the city wasn't hurting for entertainment options, each concert or block party was competing for second place behind a different type of show that was happening 20-some miles south of the city limits. There, the posh lakeside confines of Racine Civic Centre's Memorial Hall played host to fierce competition, unmatched cuteness, a loose '60s theme, and about 200 cats, all of which came together to take the form of the Feline Groovy Cat Show.

Cats take over Memorial Hall

RACINE - Cats from all over the country descended on Memorial Hall this weekend for the 4th annual Feline Groovy Cat Show. More than 130 cats participated in the show Saturday and Sunday, while people attended the event to admire the furry felines.

The event was hosted by the Cats Rule Cat Club of Milwaukee with judges coming from all over the country. The club is part of The International Cat Association. "Sometimes judges come from Australia or Germany," said Margaret Karpen, Cats Rule Cat Club president. "It's international, so we get judges from everywhere." Wisconsin cat owners said it is nice to have an event close to home. Some traveled from the East and West coasts for the event.

"Being so close means I don't have to travel so far," Karpen said. "I've driven 21 hours to a show before." With Memorial Hall packed with cages and felines, the cats battled it out for the best of the best prize.
