TICA Virtual Show Updates: South America Region Kicks Off Shows Virtual Show Dates Announced Three Regions Open for Entries

Proving nothing can stop TICA members from continuing to share their fabulous felines, fun and friendships, a small group of SC members have spent the last couple of weeks working with TICA members world wide to organize a “TICA Virtual Show Season”. What started as an idea to have a regional virtual show by SC member Jonna Inman grew into a TICA wide project.

Representatives from every region were invited to help develop and organize a show in their respective regions. That idea was expanded to a show season with regions or groups of regions hosting shows. The season will run through April and May with the International show being held the weekend of June 13-14.

TICA South America Region Kicks Off Shows:

The show season started April 4-5 with the South America Region’s virtual show, held by TICAdelPlata Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The idea was Carlos Lopez’s, judge and member of the club, who experienced something similar in Australia.

The show had 148 entries — 53 cats, 37 kittens, 39 alters, 16 HHP and 3 HHPK —from the TICA SA Region.

Connie Webb, Luiz Paulo Faccioli, Carlos Lopez, Toni Jones, Jamie Christian, Steven Corneille, Virginia Araujo, Aline Broda, Ana Ferreyra, Johary Gomez, Dora Castillo, Lourdes Duhalde all served as judges. Finals were announced on Facebook. Sunday evening the judges had a meeting via Zoom to announce the Best of each class and to elect the Best Overall. The virtual session was recorded and posted on FB. All the videos are posted on the club’s FB page. Click here to view.

TICA CatsandTulip Club Host Virtual Party in Place of Annual Judges Dinner

The TICA CatsandTulip Club was scheduled to host their April show that included there Judges’ dinner and party last weekend. The coronavirus forced them to cancel the event, but organizers quick out-of-the-box thinking did not stop their celebration.

Instead of the dinner and party the club had intended, they held a virtual “Dutch Cats and Tulips party” on YouTube. Organized by CatsandTulips members Henk Fennis and Nigel Fennis, the party featured an online
music quiz with prizes such as a complimentary one-day entry to the CatsandTulips show in November for the winner and cat toys sponsored by the Dutch online pet shop Kingdom for Cats and Dogs for second and third place winners.

After the quiz, members were treated to live streaming music of party favorites and a sing-a-long to brighten up members Saturday evening.

The event was broadcasted on YouTube with a chat function so members could participate. Members throughout Europe all attend, including those from the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, UK and France.

A video montage, including footage of memories members shared from past TICA Europe North Regional shows and music from Vera Lynn was shown at the end of the party. The video brought many to tears as members saw all the familiar faces of friends and shared memories.

Creative Corner: How to Create an Easy DIY Mask From a T-shirt

Last week, the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) began advising everyone to wear face masks in public.

Surgical masks aren’t ideal for hospital use with COVID-19 because they allow tiny droplets to seep in through parts of the mask, but they’re helpful for those of us venturing out in public to buy groceries or run errands.

To help even the most craft-impaired, we offer this no-sew mask tutorial that requires only a T-shirt and scissors. A study of homemade face masks by SmartAirFilters.com found that cotton T-shirts and cotton pillowcases are the best at-home materials for making DIY face masks, based on their ability to capture particles yet remain breathable, and that they perform comparably to surgical-grade masks.

When making your mask, please keep in mind that the edges of the mask should fit snuggly against the skin. Happy Crafting!
