Letter from Vickie

Hello everyone! Another show season has ended ... and another one has begun.

So many kittens and young cats that competed last show season will go on to be this show season's top champions. It's all of the exhibitors and breeders' dedication to this hobby, and the beautiful cats that grace our show halls that has made TICA the world's largest, and fastest growing, registry of cats.

I started out in the cat fancy just like all of you: showing, then breeding, Maine Coons. I know firsthand the hard work caring for your cats, and the long hours on the road and away from home at the shows (sometimes every weekend of the spring months!). All of you deserve a round of applause for being the "shining stars" of the cat fancy, and TICA!

In a few months you'll also have the chance to stand up and cheer for the cats who won regional and international titles. They work hard too because it takes a very special feline who tolerates baths, long hours on the road in a carrier, and being handled by many judges in a noisy show hall, week after week for 12 long months.

Your dedication and your special cats: congratulations to everyone who earned a title and an award during the 2011-2012 show season!

TICA Welcomes A Preliminary New Breed

TICA has accepted a Preliminary New Breed: the Khaomanee. Effective May 1st, as a Preliminary New Breed, the Khaomanee is eligible to be shown at TICA sanctioned shows but do not earn titles or points towards Annual Awards and must follow specific rules to be eligible for the next step in achieving championship status.

The Khaomanee, also known as the Diamond Eye cat, is a rare breed of cat originating in Thailand.

Its ancestry dates back hundreds of years, and is even mentioned in the Tamra Maew, or Cat Book Poems.

Its short, white, close-lying coat, and its blue, gold or odd eyed colored eyes makes it attractive to cat lovers.

The Khaomanee is a moderate build but very muscular, and has a very active and intelligent personality.

Savannah and Kurilian Bobtail Earn Championship Status

The elegant Savannah and the impish Kurilian Bobtail have earned Championship status and now can compete for titles and awards like all of the other Championship breeds!

This means now the Savannah and the Kurilian Bobtail will be in the championship classes with the other short-hair or long-hair cats respectively at local shows.

The Savannah was accepted by TICA for registration in 2001.

The Kurilian Bobtail is one of thirteen natural breeds of cats accepted for registration by TICA.

Meet the ... Longhaired Japanese Bobtail

The telltale white coat with strategically located black or tri-colored spots on the head, rump and/or body. The pom pom tail.

The blue or odd colored (one blue, one gold) eyes stand out against the pure white coat. Oh, it's the Japanese Bobtail, right?

Yes ... but ... is the coat long? It is! Well, it's a longhaired Japanese Bobtail.

While most Japanese Bobtails-lovingly called JBs - sport short coats, many do bless this earth with long haired coats.

The breed standard is the same for the Longhaired Japanese Bobtail, with the exception that coat is longer in length than the slicker, short coat of its brethren.
