Letter from Vickie

Tick tick tick. Do you hear that?

It's time counting down until we can celebrate all of our winners at our upcoming regional awards banquets and the annual awards in Columbus, Ohio. The Executive Office will mail out International award letters and certificates on July 10th.

Don't miss out on the fun, and attend the awards banquets ... celebrate your cats and support your fellow breeders' and friends wins ... and reserve your space, submit your photos and order a copy of the 2011-2012 Yearbook. You can't pass up the opportunity to have your cats "making history" and being featured in TICA's Yearbook.

Tick tick tick can also be heard with the number of cats and kittens who are sadly living in our local shelters. Time is precious to these fabulous felines who are simply looking for a loving home! June is Adopt a Shelter Cat month, and we're proud to work with our local shelters and rescue groups by helping cats who need new homes meet potential new families at our local shows.

Even though June is the "official month", helping cats and kittens find new loving homes is really a year-round thing! Please support your local shelters and rescue groups by inviting them to have adoptable cats at your shows, promoting them on your regional web sites and working closely with them when they need help through donations, fostering or adoptions. All cats are important to us at TICA!

Congratulations to everyone!

Feline-ly Yours,

Vickie Fisher

TICA President

Meet the ... Norwegian Forest Cat

Centuries ago when the Vikings sailed the seas in their ornately decorated boats, they traveled with cats that helped keep the rodent population down, and their food safe from being eaten by unwanted guests.

Fast forward and today the Norwegian Forest Cat has found a place in many households as a loving family member around the world.

A natural breed, the Norwegian Forest Cat also referred to as "Wegies" was referred to as the Skogkatt by the Vikings.

Big, gentle and robust, the Wegie is the perfect cat for a single person or for a lively household that wants a cat that wants to snuggle one minute, but play the next.

Award Banquet Gift Ideas

Do you remember the first time you went to a Regional or International Awards banquet and saw piles of "gifts" at your table? Fun huh? What a great way to celebrate your cat's win with your fellow exhibitors and breeders. But, what should you buy or make?

Here's a few little things to take into consideration to turn your gift into something memorable:

Have a neat cattery name? For example if your cattery was "Rosebud" why not think about a silk rose with your cattery card? Or a real rose?

What's your cat's name? For example, if it's Lady Gaga-find something really crazy that evokes Lady Gaga. Colorful M&Ms in a bag ... gold candy coins ... glittery cat toys.

What breed do you show? For example, the Havana is perfect for a little bag of chocolates or a chocolate bar with your cattery name on it.

But remember, you can always buy some bulk cat toys and put your cattery card or your cat's photo on it! Remember, it's because of those fabulous felines in our life we're at the banquets celebrating and having fun! Do a search on Google for "bulk cat toys".
