TICA and America’s Family Pet Expo Celebrate Another Successful Event and Announces 2020 Event Dates
For the sixth consecutive year, TICA participated last month in the America’s Family Pet Expo in Costa Mesa, CA. The event was a huge success and with TICA’s involvement has built up over the years to become one of the most anticipated events for cat lovers on the West Coast. As a result, TICA has already agreed to host the feline portion of the 2020 event that will be held April 24-26, 2020.
The audience this year covered all ages and all aspects of life and the feline portion of the expo covered all of them. Highlights to this year’s cat portion included appearances by Instagram sensation, cat rapper iAmMoshow who rapped twice daily about the virtues of our beloved cats. Meet & Greet opportunities were also held daily, delighting avid fans, some encounters even brought tears to either the fan or to iAmMoshow.
Another popular attraction was the massive Maine Coon “Ben Cartwright” who left visitors in awe.
One of the most successful events incorporated a series of ‘fun rings’ held throughout the show that asked exhibitors to compete for imaginative titles based on a series of criteria, including the cat with the longest tail, sexiest eyes, coolest coat and happiest cat. Show visitors in the audience served as judges. This served as being popular by all.
KatKnappers Cat Club also held various educational opportunities, including breed booths that educated the public on each breed and included “pet me” cats. Special discussions that taught visitors about the various types of feline coats, textures, and patterns, and in-depth breed presentations by Mid Atlantic Regional Director Anthony Hutcherson were held throughout the three-day event that allowed visitors a much-anticipated opportunity to pet each breed discussed. Litter Matches of kittens starting at 12 weeks were also held to assist future breeders with learning breed standards.
A Parade of Champions and then Best in Show wrapped up the 17-ring championship show and special weekend of events.
MEMBERS AT WORK: LondonCats Cat Extravanganza
What a successful weekend for LondonCats! Great teamwork with Steven Meserve and the band of merry men and women that supported the production of this #CatExtravaganza at Tobacco Dock in Central London! Watch interviews from the show by clicking photos above.
Held earlier this month, LondonCats International Show and Expo was a two-day cat show that took place in Tobacco, London, UK. Judges from around the world assessed seven rings daily as well as Best in Show. The event, dubbed “Cat Extravaganza” also included celebrity cats, feline Instagram sensations, cat agility in addition to Best in Show.

NE May Member Spotlight: Christian Cherau
Christian Cherau is a proud TICA Northeast Member, having grown up around cats, feline enthusiasts and TICA. He started showing at 9-years old after urging his mother to show their doll face Persian at the Providence, RI pet expo in 2004. Since then, he has shown numerous Household Pets, Himalayans, Persians, and Japanese Bobtails. Christian and his mother Sue helped found the Junior Exhibitor Program as it exists today, and Christian was proud to complete the program. He has goals of becoming a TICA Judge once his life allows him to. Christian has been involved with show productions for 10-plus years. Starting off with Cats on the Beach Cape Cod shows, he now works with several clubs across the region as show manager, entry clerk, master clerk, and/or gopher. Christian is also proud to have been involved in several major successful TICA events, including Meet the Breeds in New York City and show managing the 2014 TICA Annual in Worcester. He endeavors to keep the fancy growing by reaching out to potential new exhibitors at vibrant TICA shows and encouraging existing exhibitors to help keep the cat fancy growing and healthy for future generations. He would love to revive the days of massive centre city shows in the Northeast hubs of Boston, Toronto, Montreal, and New York City to bring TICA felines to an even bigger audience. Outside the cat world, Christian works in Trading Operations for a mutual fund in Downtown Boston and enjoys time either taking advantage of the opportunities living in Boston provides or soaking up sunshine on the bay and beaches of Rhode Island. The TICA NE Region thanks Christian for being such an invaluable resource and passionate feline advocate.
