TICA Board Votes to Issue Show Licenses for the 2020-2021:
Charcoal Bengals Accepted for Championship Status
The Board of Directors held a special meeting last weekend which resulted in the acceptance of Charcoal Bengals for Championship competition and approval of changes to the Ragdoll breed standard, both to be effective as of May 1, 2020.
Additionally, recognizing that TICA is an international association, the Board understands that reversing the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic will be erratic and differ around the world. With that understanding, clubs may receive licenses for shows which they are able to organize and conduct in accordance with local governmental rules and regulations and which they feel are financially viable to pursue.
At this time, there is no suspension of scoring for titles and awards. TICA Board will revisit and discuss the issue of scoring for Regional and International Awards during its upcoming Spring meeting, held May 15-17, 2020. Download the agenda here.

TICA ESSENTIAL WORKER SPOTLIGHT: TICA Thanks Northwest Regional Member Peggy Smith for Her Dedication to Keeping Us Safe
TICA would like to Thank Northwest Regional member Peggy Smith for working the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic and keeping us safe.
Peggy is a Nurse Practitioner working for the not-for-profit organization MultiCare Health System in Tacoma, Washington with Complex Care and post acute patients as well as at University Place Medical clinic for the past three years.
Peggy works with facility at Tacoma Lutheran Home in Tacoma for after hospitalization care to further stabilize and rehabilitate as much as possible so people can return home with needed support instead of going to a nursing home. Post-acute patients arrive at Tacoma Lutheran Home from several of the area hospitals. Peggy also sees patients of all ages and care levels at the University Place Medical clinic.
In addition to all the saving patients lives, Peggy has been able to share some of her Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) with others so they can also be safe and prevent the spread of infection. Peggy says that “families have been amazingly supportive even though they cannot see their elders in person.”
Peggy has coordinated an Annual HCM Clinic in conjunction with the Evergreen Cat Fanciers February show. This past February, the club held HCM screenings for a record-breaking 41 cats. She is a member of The New Culture Cat Club (TNCC) in Portland, Oregon and has been in charge of catering the club’s shows for the past 10 years. Peggy lives with her Sphynx, Nala’s Demand, Hulk, and Shimi’s gift as well as her American Shorthair cats Cloud and Big Red.

TICA South Central Virtual Cat Show Winners Announced
The TICA South Central Virtual Cat Show took place last weekend with an impressive 392 entries in 9 categories, including: kittens, cats, alter, household pet kittens, household pets, the new breed section-PNB, ANB and New Trait, a tiny tot congress for litters and kittens under 4 months old, a golden oldie congress for cats 10 and older, and a Rainbow congress for those cats we’ve lost. The event also featured a junior exhibitor presentation with each junior sending in a video of themselves describing their cat.
The Region raised $3,780 to help the South Central clubs in the region who were forced to cancel shows due to the coronavirus.

South Central Regional Director Vicki Jo Harrison would like to thank all those who entered their fabulous felines in the first TICA South Central Virtual Cat Show last weekend and all the sponsors for helping support the show through monetary and prize donations for the winners.
Harrison would also like to extend a big thank you to the terrific show’s judges: Don Caruthers, Fate Mays, Toni Jones, Cheryl Hogan, Francine Hicks, Charlotte Shea and Jorge Garnica. “The Region appreciates the time you took to judge the many entries and work through the technological challenges of sharing some of your finals virtually,” said Harrison.
She would also like to recognize the South Central Show Team who worked harder on this show than any real show, Jonna Inman, Jackie Rose, Nicole Barratt, Michelle Richards, Denise Spraker, Toni Jones and honorary SC member Liz Brown. “Thank you for all the hard work and endless hours you put in to make this first virtual show a smashing success,” said Harrison. “I know the virtual shows are no substitute for the real thing, but they do help keep us connected through the love of our cats.”
Be on the lookout for information on the big TICA International show scheduled for the weekend of June 13-14, 2020. The committee is still in the planning stages and will be making an announcement in the next couple of weeks.
TICA Mid Pacific Virtual Cat Show Winners Announced
The TICA Mid Pacific Virtual Cat show took place last weekend with an impressive 420 entries. The Region raised more than $2000 in funds to help clubs in the Region who were forced to cancel shows due to the coronavirus.
A big thank you goes to Shauntay Burris for organizing and handling all the logistics of last weekend’s event. “I know Gloria Mahan would have been very proud,” said Burris. “I could imagine her all weekend cracking the whip, and it really motivated me to keep going. I miss her, as so many of us do.”
Burris would like to thank all those who entered their fabulous felines in the first TICA Mid Pacific Virtual Cat Show last weekend and all the sponsors for helping support the show through monetary and prize donations for the winners. A big thank you goes to Heather Gibson of Pawtree, Michelle Richards with Help the Kneady, Laura Mestes with Farmina, PetKing Brands, makers of Zymox products, and a special thank you to Polly Torubarova for donating the grand prize.

Two Finalists to Receive TICA Tote Bags
Cats are used to being treated like royalty. They’ve been worshiped, pampered and adored by humans since ancient times.
This week’s TICA Good News contest is looking for your best photo that show us why your cat is king/queen and you are the servant.
TICA members can enter by emailing a high resolution – 300 dpi preferred –photo along with a catchy caption, your name, your cats name, breed, TICA Region, and club name to newsletter@tica.org. Entries must be received by 11:59 PM ET on Tuesday, May 5, 2020.
One grand prize winner and two finalists will be chosen at random and featured with other top entries in the May 8th issue of TICA’s GOOD NEWSletter and on TICA social media pages. The grand prize winner will receive a case of Royal Canin wet cat food and a 7 lb. Bag of Intense Beauty cat food. Two finalists will also be chosen and each receive a TICA tote bag.
CONTEST RULES: 1. Animals and humans in the photos and the photos themselves must be owned/taken by you. If the animals aren’t yours, you must have written and signed permission from the owners. You cannot enter the contest for someone else. 2. Send only previously non-published photos and photos that have not won previous photo contests. (Photos must not have appeared before in a print publication.) 3. All entries must include a caption, your name, email address, phone number, and the pets’ name and breed (if known). 4. Finalist photos will be judged based on production values (in focus, good lighting, high enough resolution — 300 dpi preferred), adherence to the themes and appeal. 5. You must be 18 or older to enter. Employees and relatives of The International Cat Association (TICA) are not eligible to enter. 6. Winners will be announced the following week in TICA’s GOOD NEWSletter. Winners will also be posted on our social media.
